We are going to be in South Africa next year and want to take a few days in Namibia. One photographer said "the desert is a photographer's paradise" - another said "Etosha National park is the only place you need to be". We want to photograph game - lions tigers elephants birds - There are three sections of Etosha (West Central and East) and lodges in each area and waterholes in each area. Can anyone give me some advice about Namibia?
Any help is appreciated Bill Ginsburg |

Namibia safari
Hi Bill, me again (after the Kruger Information I just added)
Ok here goes, Personally I would do one or the other not a combination of South Africa and Namibia. The reason being is that they are 2 big countries with lots so see and do. The true being told once you visit Africa you WILL be back so rather travel one country at a time take in all the experiences that one can instead of rushing from airport to airport and not spending enough time at any given place - remember that this is after all a holiday where one is pursuing a passion. A few days in Namibia will be a waste of time, there is simply to much to do, rather do South Africa and a couple of days in Victoria Falls or Namibia on its own - trust me on this! Yes Namibia is a landscape photographers paradise, Etosha and the Caprivi strip are really the only 2 wild life areas in Namibia (Etosha is awesome though). If it is only really wildlife photography that you are after this is not the destination, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya are. BUT what a destination for general landscapes and people/ cultural photography - the best in Southern Africa without a doubt - if it is landscape, Namibia is the destination. Namibia like South Africa can be a self drive destination therefore giving your self the time to stop and take pics when and where you want and at your own time. Quote:
I agree 100%, but again a few days will leave you disappointed as you will realize that this a 2 - 3 week destination not a fews days destination. pics Any question please just ask. Cheers for now

I fully understand your feeling but we may only be able to spare a couple of days. How long does it take to get from the airport in Namibia closest to the Namib desert? If after it's all said and done I don't feel it's worth spending the better part of one day getting to the desert and the better of one dayu returning for one day of sight seeing and photographing in the desert. What do you think?
